The late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, passed away on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that continue to stir controversy and public outcry. Over 19 months later, his final burial remains pending, leaving fans and the public questioning— “When will Mohbad be laid to rest?”

Recall that the singer was initially buried the day after his death, with his father, Joseph Aloba, claiming that the swift burial was in line with cultural traditions.

“In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive,” he said.

However, following public pressure and calls for a thorough investigation into his sudden demise, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy. Since then, his remains have been held in a morgue.

In response to the growing calls for his burial, Mohbad’s father insisted that no one should proceed with burial arrangements without his explicit consent. He emphasised the need for justice and clarity surrounding his son’s death before any burial can take place.

“Nobody should go there and take his body, please. If they want to do anything there, I’ll be the one to authorise them,” he said in a video posted on social media.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command stated that only the late singer’s family had the authority to request for the release of his corpse. The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “Fans cannot request the corpse, well-wishers cannot request the corpse, only the family can request the corpse and the family has not done that.”

This has led to calls from fans and other well-wishers seeking for closure and “pleading” that Mohbad should be laid to rest soon with dignity and respect.
